Constituion Week

Constitution Week is fast approaching: September 17 – 23. Each year, the President of the United States issues a proclamation declaring this week as Constitution Week. This is an important event for Connecticut Daughters, and especially since ‘our’ Oliver Ellsworth was a drafter of the Constitution, and played a key role in its ratification. Additionally, we are celebrating Oliver’s 275th birthday this year!

Why Do we Celebrate and Promote Constitution Week?

1. To encourage the study of the historical events that led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787;
2. To remind the public that the Constitution is the basis of America’s great heritage and the foundation for its way of life;
3. To emphasize U.S. citizens’ responsibility to protect, defend and preserve the U.S. Constitution.

Looking for some help to promote Constitution Week?

To help your Chapter promote Constitution Week in this year of virtual activities, we have developed seven short posts on a variety of Constitution-related topics, with photos for your use. They are attached in a word format and also as a jpg (picture) which should be easy to use as a facebook post. Here are some ideas:
• Post one each day on your Chapter Facebook Page
• Pick a few to send out to your Chapter members
• Work with your town Library to post some or all of them
• Forward the package of posts to your local Scouts troops
• Post them in your local Patch
• Share them with your local middle and high school
And of course, please visit the Constitution Week section on the NSDAR website for additional ideas and materials.

This is a deeply meaningful event, and your support is important. Have fun with this, and please feel free to report back on ideas and successes. Thank you for your time and outreach.
